Delete your account

You can delete your Dumpling account yourself, from inside the app, without asking us. It takes about a minute. This page shows you how, and says exactly what goes and what stays.
How to delete your account
Dumpling runs on Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. The steps are the same on all of them.
- Open Dumpling and sign in.
- Go to Settings. On desktop it's at the bottom of the left sidebar; on a phone it's in the bottom bar.
- Choose Data & Privacy.
- Choose Delete Account.
- Confirm that it's you. If your account has a password, type it. If you signed up with Google and never set a password, we email you a six-digit code instead.
- Type DELETE to confirm, then press Delete Account.
This is immediate and cannot be undone. There is no grace period and no way for us to restore the account afterwards, so export anything you want to keep first: Settings → Data & Privacy → Export data gives you everything as JSON.
What gets deleted
Everything that belongs to your account, removed from the live database immediately and irreversibly:
- Your account and sign-in details
- Tasks, notes, projects, areas, sections and tags
- Habits, goals and their history
- People and organizations you added, and the connections between everything
- Files you attached
- Assistant conversations and anything it remembered about you
- Your settings, filters and saved views
- Any Google Calendar connection, including the tokens that allowed it
What we keep, and for how long
A small amount survives deletion, either because the law requires it or because backups cannot selectively forget one account.

Backups are the reason "immediate" deletion has an asterisk. They exist so a server failure doesn't lose your data, which means they can't selectively forget one account. They're encrypted, they're never restored except in a disaster, and they age out on the schedule above.
If you signed in with Google
Deleting your Dumpling account does not remove Dumpling's permission from your Google Account. We can revoke the permission behind a connected calendar, and we do. We cannot revoke the sign-in permission itself, because we never store a token that would let us.
You can remove it yourself in a few seconds at your Google Account permissions page. Find Dumpling in the list and choose Remove access.
If you can't get into the app
If you've lost access to your account and can't delete it yourself, email support@getdumpling.app from the address on the account and ask us to delete it.
We'll ask you to confirm the request came from you, and if there's any doubt we may ask you to confirm something only the account holder would know. We ask because handing someone's notes to an impersonator would be far worse than the inconvenience. We'll respond within 45 days, and in practice much sooner.
